Welcome to Paul Carter Counselling currently
available Online & on the Telephone. Over the last couple of weeks I have been updating and revamping my Website, alongside publishing my weekly blogs. I would like to take this opportunity to reintroduce myself and tell you a bit about the services I am currently offering.
I have worked as a counsellor/psychotherapist since 2003. I work with short-term clients using EMDR for PTSD, trauma and abuse, or CBT and solution focused models for other issues. The aim here is to help clients to learn strategies and solutions for coping with their difficulties.
I also work with gestalt and the person centred models. These models are more relational working in the “here and now” of what is going on relationally between the client and myself. These models are more suited to longer term work to assist clients to find their way through the difficulties they are experiencing.
Working in an integrated way, means that I can use any of the above models to support me and the client in the work that needs to be done. Whether you need support with anger management, abuse, depression, anxiety, cultural issues, bullying, relationships or difficulties at work, counselling can help.
I am an Accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). For more information on the BACP please click here. I am fully qualified and you can see a list of my qualifications here.
I work with a wide range of issues, but particularly specialise in Abuse and trauma. You can find out more about the areas I specialise in by looking at the Counselling Services page or contact me to talk in person about what is concerning you. I also work with EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing.
EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories, is often used to help alleviate depression, anxiety, and help clients recover from physical, emotional and sexual abuse and domestic violence. It is also helpful for clients struggling with grief. EMDR is recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the World Health Organisation (WHO). To read more about EMDR and the issues that it can help with please see my different blogs below.
When you come to a first session with me It is quite normal to feel nervous or anxious at the first session. I will introduce myself and ask you some questions in order to find out more information about your reason for coming for counselling and get an idea of what you want to achieve. In future session I will encourage you to tell me about the difficulties you are experiencing and help you to work through your difficulties in order for you to find solutions or ways of accepting your situation.
Counselling sessions with me last for 50 minutes and EMDR Sessions come for 60 minuites. The number of sessions you will need will depend depend on the nature of your difficulty. It also depends on your commitment to change. People change at different rates and there are no right or wrong time periods as some people adapt to change more quickly or slowly than others. Making changes in your life is not always easy and is the reason that you are experiencing difficulties.
The number of sessions of EMDR you might need can vary. For some it might be only one or two sessions and for others it may be more. You can discuss this with your therapist when you make contact. EMDR Sessions are 60 minutes long. It is possible to have sessions that are longer.
I work in Kingswinford and Birmingham. I also work online and on the phone. Currently due to COVID I am only working online and on the phone. I work in the daytime and at the weekend. Up to date information on my fees can be found here.
