Dry January 2022
Dry January 2022 – What is it?
Dry January is the Uk’s one month alcohol free challenge. It was started by Alcohol Change UK in 2012.
What are the possible benefits?
Giving up alcohol for a month will have a positive impact on your physical and emotional wellbeing, particularly if you drink regularly. The possible positive benefits of not drinking are.
- Better skin
- More Energy
- Better concentration
- Better Sleep
- More Money
- Lower blood pressure and cholesterol
- Reduced risk of illness
- Sense of Achievement
These are just a few of the benefits of reducing your alcohol intake. How alcohol affects you will very much depend on your circumstances, how much you drink and how it affects you and those around you. It is clear though that reducing or stopping drinking altogether could have long lasting benefits that will ripple out to all areas of your life.

Who shouldn’t do Dry January?
If you are someone who drinks everyday and has a physical dependency on alcohol, just stopping drinking can cause you to go into a physical withdrawal. Before you start dry January you should get expert advice about your units and whether you have a physical dependency. Consult your local alcohol misuse agency or your GP.
