Monthly trans-focussed consultation and CPD group

Monthly trans-focussed consultation and CPD group – Counselling colleagues Sam Hope and Skylar Watts are starting a monthly trans focussed consultation and CPD group for counsellors needing extra support and expertise in this area. This blog tells you a little more about the group and how you can book if you would like to join.

This monthly trans-focussed consultation & CPD group offers a space for therapists to develop their practice around working with trans clients. Attendees can bring a hypothetical dilemma/issue or simply join to participate in discussion as part of their CPD commitment.

Attendees are welcome to bring real-life challenges from their work if they anonymise the information they share. The facilitation will be person-centred but therapists of any modality are welcome to attend.

There is an expectation that all participants will be striving towards anti-oppressive and trans affirmative practice

Facilitated by Sam Hope, therapist and author of Person centred counselling for trans and gender diverse peopleA practical guide, and co-facilitated by Skylar Watts, therapist in training. To find out more about Sam Hope please see their website. www.sam-hope.co.uk

The details of the group are as follows:

Location: Online Zoom Meeting

Dates: Every 3rd Friday of the month

First Meeting: 20 January 2023

Time: 10-12

Cost: £25 per session

How to Book: Via Eventbrite

Commitment: People can book on a Drop-in basis – Via Eventbrite

Group agreement: (please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like to add something)

All client information must be anonymised – remember the trans community is small

Confidentiality is expected for all present, except in the unlikely event of severe safeguarding concerns not being addressed elsewhere.

The space intentionally works towards being anti-oppressive and trans affirmative by consciously challenging, questioning and critiquing existing unequal structures such as white supremacy, cisheteronormativity and ableism. It is expected that people will trip up on this journey, and that skilfully challenging each other to develop our awareness is a necessary ingredient of centring marginalised people in our empathy.
