Stress Awareness Month April 2023 – Stress Awareness Month has been held every April since 1992. Its purpose is to, “raise awareness of the causes and cures for our modern-day stress epidemic. It is the time when we have an opportunity for an open conversation on the impact of stress.” 

Stress is our body’s response to pressure. Many different situations or life events can cause stress. It is often triggered when we experience something new, unexpected or that threatens our sense of self, or when we feel we have little control over a situation.

Over the past few years we have all gone through an incredibly stressful time. With the COVID pandemic we have worried for our lives and our livelihood and those of our family and friends. This is on top of the everyday stress we have felt navigating and negotiating life.

Sometimes it can feel as though being stressed is the norm and that we can be the architects of our own stress when hustling and grind culture promotes constant working and guilt surrounding resting and recharging your batteries. The pressure to be always doing, to always be able to deal with everything to, never feel like you can’t cope can be overwhelming.
